Director, Utility Consulting We are seeking an entrepreneurial leader to spearhead consulting initiatives with a strong commitment to collaboration, integrity, and service excellence. Position Summary The Utility Consulting Director is responsible for leading the sale and execution of management and advisory consulting engagements. The ideal candidate will bring subject matter expertise in at least one of the following areas:

  • Transmission Planning

  • Grid Modernization & Distribution Planning

  • Resource Planning & Market Assessment

  • Financial Analysis & Rates

  • Utility Investment Planning

  • Renewable Energy

  • Energy Asset Advisory

  • Zero Emissions Transportation

This role includes overseeing a team of consultants and analysts, ensuring high-quality project delivery, maintaining client relationships, and supporting staff development and project performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead consulting projects from initial pursuit through negotiation, execution, and delivery — managing cost, schedule, and quality throughout.

  • Facilitate strategic workshops with senior client teams to uncover needs, define requirements, and co-develop actionable plans.

  • Anticipate client challenges and craft innovative, high-impact solutions.

  • Serve as the main point of contact for clients, coordinating with internal and external subject matter experts.

  • Track and communicate project performance, including schedule, cost, and outcomes, to stakeholders.

  • Build and manage cross-functional project teams, ensuring effective use of resources and fostering a collaborative work culture.

  • Mentor and support consultants and analysts in their professional growth, including providing training and performance feedback.

  • Oversee third-party vendors and subcontractors, ensuring alignment on contracts, scope, schedule, and budgets.

  • Identify opportunities for additional services, helping to grow client relationships through cross-selling and upselling.

  • Drive project invoicing and financial tracking to meet contract terms and performance expectations.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or a related field; MBA preferred.

  • Minimum of 13 years of relevant consulting experience, including project leadership.

  • Proven ability to manage consulting engagements with strong business acumen.

  • Advanced analytical capabilities to quickly interpret and leverage large datasets.

  • Strong client-facing skills, with the ability to uncover client needs and deliver compelling recommendations.

  • Excellent facilitation, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

  • Deep understanding of financial concepts and planning.

  • Outstanding oral and written communication abilities; able to communicate complex information to diverse audiences.
