Need to improve the accuracy and reliability of our inventory data by validating real-world assets against system records, identifying discrepancies, and helping propose more systematic approaches for maintaining and organizing inventory moving forward.
Your specific responsibilities will be to:
- Support the OS team with ingesting server serial number data into Nlyte.
- Assist with IT equipment inventory tracking using an inventory tool
- Enter and update asset records, including:
- serial numbers
- PC numbers
- equipment type/model
- physical location
- Support in-person inventory verification in storage areas.
- Identify and document discrepancies (missing assets, incorrect locations, duplicates)
- Help maintain consistent naming conventions and inventory data quality in the inventory tool
- Help propose a structured process for:
- How equipment is stored
- How equipment is labeled
- How updates should be tracked
- For candidates with programming experience, develop tooling for automating data entry and synchronization between the inventory system
- Provide training sessions with the rest of the team to share knowledge and best practices for utilizing the implemented system.
- Experience working in a laboratory, data center, or research computing environment.
- Exposure to IT asset management, configuration management databases (CMDB), or infrastructure documentation systems.
- Experience organizing or maintaining technical inventories, equipment tracking systems, or hardware documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to develop or improve systematic processes for organizing technical information and inventory records.
