Sr Network Engineer – Network & Cloud Infrastructure Design

Newark, DE; Indianapolis, IN or Sterling, VA

Role Summary
We’re looking for a senior engineer to design and modernize enterprise network and cloud infrastructure. This role requires deep expertise in AWS networking, strong CloudFormation architecture skills, and leadership in Git-based IaC governance. You’ll define patterns, enforce automation standards, and mentor others while ensuring security and compliance.
What You'll Do
- Lead design for campus, SD-WAN, wireless, and hybrid cloud connectivity.
- Architect AWS networking (Transit Gateway, VPC, VPN, security groups) and integrate with on-prem; ensure Azure connectivity (VPN Gateway, ExpressRoute).
- Define and enforce CloudFormation-first IaC strategy; build modular templates, stack sets, and validation pipelines.
- Establish Git governance (branching, PR reviews, code owners) and mentor team members on IaC best practices.
- Extend Ansible roles/playbooks for configuration orchestration; guide Terraform adoption where appropriate.
- Drive observability improvements using AWS CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, and telemetry tools.
- Collaborate with security on guardrails, firewall policies, and DNS security; ensure compliance with ITIL-based change control.
- Produce architecture diagrams, ADRs, and audit-ready documentation.
What You'll Bring
Required:
- 6+ years in network and cloud infrastructure engineering with design leadership.
- Deep AWS networking expertise; strong Azure networking experience.
- Advanced CloudFormation and Git proficiency; automation with Bash/PowerShell and Ansible.
- Strong Palo Alto firewall engineering experience.
Preferred:
- Terraform, AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Network Engineer Associate, PCNSE, CCNP, ITIL certification.
Success Metrics (90/180 days)
- 90 days: Baseline the current hybrid topology; deliver a CloudFormation module (e.g., SG baseline + logging) and a Git workflow improvement (e.g., CODEOWNERS + PR templates).
- 180 days: Deliver a reference architecture for a repeatable VPC/TGW pattern with runbooks and ADRs; measurable reduction in misconfigured security groups and time-to-deploy via automated validations
