Our client which is a Financial is seeking an Principal Software Engineer / Solution Architect – Event-Driven Systems & Calculation Engine Modernization
Position Overview
Our client seeking a highly experienced Principal Software Engineer or Solution Architect to help lead the modernization of a large-scale enterprise financial platform. This individual will play a key role in transforming legacy applications into a modern, event-driven architecture while helping redesign a next-generation calculation engine that is scalable, resilient, and built for future growth.
This is a hands-on architecture role requiring deep technical expertise in distributed systems, backend engineering, cloud technologies, and enterprise application modernization. Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools to accelerate software delivery is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture and modernization of a large-scale enterprise calculation engine.
- Design and implement scalable event-driven solutions using Kafka and modern messaging patterns.
- Break down monolithic applications into modular, cloud-native services.
- Design high-performance backend services capable of processing complex financial calculations.
- Develop scalable APIs, asynchronous workflows, and distributed processing solutions.
- Partner with business and technical stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical architecture.
- Drive engineering best practices around performance, scalability, observability, and maintainability.
- Mentor development teams and provide technical leadership throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Leverage AI-assisted engineering tools to improve development efficiency, code quality, and testing automation.
- 10+ years of software engineering experience with significant experience designing enterprise-scale applications.
- Strong background building or modernizing calculation engines, rules engines, financial processing systems, or other high-volume transactional platforms.
- Deep expertise in Event-Driven Architecture and distributed systems.
- Hands-on experience implementing Apache Kafka or similar event streaming platforms.
- Experience designing microservices and cloud-native architectures.
- Strong knowledge of asynchronous messaging, event publishing, and scalable integration patterns.
- Experience with modern cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
- Strong programming experience in languages such as C#, Java, or Python.
- Experience with containerization technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automated testing.
- Experience implementing Change Data Capture (CDC), Debezium, Outbox Pattern, or Schema Registry.
- Experience with financial services, wealth management, banking, insurance, or other highly regulated industries.
- Experience developing spreadsheet-style or Excel-like business applications, calculation frameworks, or reporting platforms.
- Experience with Agentic AI, LangGraph, LangChain, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), or AI-assisted software development.
- Experience using tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar AI engineering platforms.
