Senior Software Engineer
Location: offices in Reston, VA; Austin, TX or Menlo Park, CA

About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help build, enhance, and scale the applications, agents, and developer tools that support related platforms and services.
You will work closely with machine learning scientists, software engineers, DevOps professionals, Product, and QA to deliver secure, reliable, and high-performance solutions. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who can operate effectively in a fast-moving environment, translate evolving product concepts into scalable software, and contribute to technical decisions from architecture through production deployment.
What You’ll Do
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and support production-quality software supporting AI products.
- Build and enhance scalable applications, APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
- Collaborate with machine learning scientists and engineers to integrate AI capabilities into client products, agents, and workflows.
- Work closely with Product, QA, DevOps, and business stakeholders to define practical technical solutions.
- Break down complex or ambiguous requirements into well-defined engineering tasks.
- Contribute to architecture, technical standards, coding practices, and engineering best practices.
- Troubleshoot performance, reliability, scalability, and integration issues in production environments.
- Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, Agile ceremonies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical mentorship and support to other engineers.
- Use AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, code quality, testing, and documentation.
Required Qualifications
- At least five years of professional software engineering experience.
- Experience designing and developing large-scale, distributed, or cloud-based systems.
- Strong hands-on experience with Python.
- Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs, preferably using FastAPI.
- Experience working with PostgreSQL or another relational database.
- Strong understanding of microservices and distributed-systems architecture.
- Experience with Docker and containerized application development.
- Experience with automated testing and test-driven development practices.
- Experience with Kafka or a comparable messaging, streaming, or queueing technology.
- Experience with Git, CI/CD, and Agile/Scrum development practices.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience using AI technologies, including large language models, AI agents, or AI-enabled development tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native application deployment.
- Experience building AI-powered products, agents, platforms, or developer tools.
- Experience using AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or comparable tools.
- Experience working with machine learning engineers, data scientists, or applied AI teams.
- Experience operating software in security-sensitive, regulated, government, or mission-critical environments.
- Experience with observability, performance optimization, and production operations.
- Experience working in an early-stage, high-growth, or highly entrepreneurial technology environment.

- Deliver production-ready features across related AI applications and services.
- Contribute meaningfully to architecture and engineering decisions.
- Improve system reliability, scalability, testing, and development practices.
- Build strong working relationships across Engineering, Product, QA, DevOps, and Machine Learning.
- Help the team use AI-assisted development tools effectively and responsibly.
