Job Overview:
  • ACDC serves as the Agile Portfolio Management Office (PMO) for the technology organization at LPL. The purpose of ACDC is to enable agile best practices and drive planning and execution activities that unlock the flow of value and create transparency into capacity across the organization. ACDC supports Agile product delivery, by providing services to business partners and Agile Delivery Teams. ACDC manages a suite of services that includes support, delivery, implementation, and monitoring to ensure the efficient execution of key initiatives for internal customers.
  • The Scrum Master II is responsible for guiding 2-3 team(s) through the use of Agile / Scrum practices and values for the purpose of delivering quality products and solutions to the organization. This role must build trusted relationships with the team and with their stakeholders (Product Managers, Solutions Managers, etc.) to ensure that the needs of all team members are being met.

The Scrum Master II works closely with Product Owners, Scrum Master I, Delivery Coordinators, and Release Train Engineers. This role reports directly to the Release Train Engineer.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure the team follows standard Agile processes while identifying opportunities for improvement.
• Facilitate team in defining Working Agreements, Definition of Ready, Definition of Done and then ensures those agreements are upheld.
• Facilitate Agile ceremonies: daily stand-up (scrum) meetings, retrospectives, demos, backlog grooming / refinement, backlog sizing, and sprint planning.
• Understand and use a variety of techniques to continuously optimize ceremonies and team participation and engagement.
• Identify and help to remove impediments, escalate impediments to the product and solutions manager, recommend ways to resolve impediments, and influence leadership to act on these recommendations.
• Help team inspect and adapt process through retrospectives, data / metrics tracking, and creating a safe, trusting environment with space to grow.
• Coaching the team to higher levels of performance.
• Assist with internal and external communication and improving transparency by creating visible information radiators (burn-downs, velocity chart, etc.), dashboards, and demos.
• Provide metric reports to assist in product roadmap planning.
• Facilitate getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work directly.
• Facilitate discussion, decision-making, and conflict resolution.
• Observe team interactions and use emotional intelligence to discuss observations in a safe, trusting environment.
• Support product planning by participating in release planning discussions.
• Support execution through understanding of priority and sequencing required to deliver efficiently.
• Guide team in commitment making and sprint completion.
• Hold team (Product, Development, QA, and team members) accountable for delivery commitments.
• Help team identify when commitments are at risk and assist team with solutioning to ensure commitments are met.
• Be an agile subject matter expert and provide strategic influence with the product / business and other engineering organizations.
• Ensure team’s backlogs are sufficiently full at all times (at minimum 3-4 sprints worth of work defined).
• Practice servant-leadership and promote learning in others by building relationships with cross-functional stakeholders, communicating information, and providing advice to drive efforts forward.
• Influence team members within assigned unit adapting to competing demands and new responsibilities.
• Provide feedback to others including upward feedback to leadership and mentoring junior team members.
• Conduct or oversee business-specific efforts by applying expertise in subject area.
• Partner internally and externally to make effective decisions solving complex problems, escalating high priority issues or impediments as appropriate, monitoring progress and results, and recognizing and capitalizing on improvement opportunities.

Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree + 4 years of product or project development experience, or 3 years of project development experience on an Agile Team or equivalent combination of work experience
• Demonstrated experience facilitating meetings at multiple levels of an organization and an understanding of facilitation techniques
• Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Exemplifies and promotes Agile values and principles
• Outstanding communication, facilitation, negotiation, and coaching skills
• Knowledge of an agile framework or method (i.e. Scrum, Kanban), or understanding of software development life cycle models as well as in-depth knowledge of traditional project management principles and practices
• Adept at refinement, story splitting, estimation, velocity, retrospection, and other Scrum techniques
• Planning and problem solving with product management and delivery teams

• Compliance - Follows defined processes to maintain compliance for products. Tracks issues and analyzes trends to inform compliance process development.
• PI Planning – Carries out PI Planning processes as defined. Coaches team members on expectations and practices.
• Prioritization – Leads the defined prioritization process for the team to ensure most important initiatives are being worked on.
• Scrum Knowledge – Guides the team to understand & apply the Agile values. Actively seeks new facilitation methods. Helps colleagues to grow in their role through active engagement. Ability to guide teams away from "waterfall" to more iterative, agile ways of working.
• Servant Leadership - Excellent listening skills. Actively seeks feedback from the team and stakeholders. Influences relevant leadership to remove impediments creating the context for high performing teams. Facilitates resolution of conflicts within the team.
• Value Delivery - Uses tools to demonstrate and communicate vision and value delivery by helping the team to deliver a functional release plan. Makes effective and rapid decisions without being certain of the outcome. Accountable for extracting lessons learned from failures and mistakes.
• Communication- Articulates complex messages clearly and with impact to stakeholders.
• Customer-centricity - Leads the department/organization in customer-centric mindset and coaches team members and colleagues to continually keep customer at center of work and process development.
• Influencing- Ability to impact actions, behaviors and opinions of stakeholders toward a desired outcome or to remove impediments. Influences the direction of ACDC organization.
• Knowledge of Agile product delivery – Ensures that customers are at the center of all decisions and applies design thinking to design and deliver solutions that are desirable, feasible, viable, and sustainable.
• Lean-Agile mindset - Leads the team in a Lean-Agile mindset. Coaches and guides team members toward more Agile ways of thinking and working.
• Problem management - Initiates and monitors actions to investigate and resolve problems in systems, processes and services. Determines problem fixes/remedies. Assists with the implementation of agreed remedies and preventative measures.
• Stakeholder management - Identifies the communications and relationship needs of stakeholder groups. Translates communications/stakeholder engagement strategies into specific activities and deliverables.
Facilitates open communication by acting as a single point of contact for stakeholders. Facilitates business decision-making processes. Captures and disseminates technical and business information.
