Senior Research Scientist, Cancer Biology

Overview:
Yoh is seeking a highly motivated PhD-level scientist to join a cutting-edge cancer biology program. The Senior Research Scientist, Cancer Biology is central to a high-priority initiative focused on uncovering the mechanisms of a novel therapeutic target using advanced cellular and molecular biology techniques. The ideal candidate will bring scientific rigor, creativity, and a collaborative spirit to a multidisciplinary team driving small-molecule discovery efforts.

Location: South San Francisco, CA
Compensation: $65-$75 per hour (based upon experience)
Type: Full-time ( 12-month Contract, possibility of extension based on performance)

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and execute in vitro experiments to explore target biology, pathway modulation, and drug mechanisms of action.
• Utilize gene perturbation tools (CRISPR, siRNA/shRNA), overexpression systems, and pharmacological agents in cellular assays.
• Apply a broad range of molecular and cellular techniques to investigate signaling pathways, immune phenotypes, and synthetic lethality.
• Analyze and interpret complex datasets with a focus on reproducibility, quantitative rigor, and mechanistic insight.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to align experimental strategies with translational goals.
• Present findings in internal meetings and contribute to the strategic direction of the discovery program.

Qualifications:

• PhD in cancer biology, molecular biology, cell biology, or a related field; postdoctoral or 2–3 years of industry experience preferred.
• Proven ability to independently drive hypothesis-driven research at the bench.
• Expertise in mammalian cell culture, viability/proliferation assays, and multi-parametric flow cytometry.
• Proficiency in molecular techniques such as qRT-PCR, Western blotting, ELISA, HTRF, MSD, and confocal microscopy.
• Experience with functional genomics and mechanistic assays related to protein function, degradation, trafficking, or immune signaling is a strong plus.
• Strong analytical and communication skills; ability to synthesize data and present to diverse scientific audiences.
• Familiarity with computational tools for data analysis and experience working with CROs or external partners is advantageous.
