A leading healthcare organization specializing in cancer care and advanced medical treatment is seeking a Senior Radiation Safety Specialist to support radiation safety operations across its Orange County facilities, including a state-of-the-art cancer center and hospital. This role is essential in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and the broader community through rigorous radiation safety standards and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Radiation Safety Oversight: Conduct regular inspections of facilities using radioactive materials and radiation-emitting devices. Ensure adherence to internal safety protocols and regulatory standards.

  • Dosimetry Management: Prepare and analyze monthly and quarterly radiation dosimetry reports. Maintain comprehensive exposure records for staff and departments.

  • Instrumentation Calibration: Oversee the calibration and maintenance of health physics instruments and personal dosimeters, ensuring optimal performance and accuracy.

  • Emergency Response: Lead investigations into accidental radiation exposures or incidents. Coordinate reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.

  • Sealed Source Program: Manage leak testing, security, and inventory for all sealed radioactive sources across the site.

  • Training & Consultation: Develop and deliver training for personnel on radiation safety procedures. Provide subject matter expertise to clinical, research, and facilities teams.

  • Policy Development: Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of safety procedures, protocols, and departmental SOPs.

  • Radioactive Waste Management: Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of radioactive waste in compliance with environmental and health regulations.

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in operational health physics or radiation safety in a clinical or research setting.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in radiation detection instrumentation, dosimetry systems, and relevant health physics equipment.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with state/federal regulations for radiation safety.

  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to train and consult across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to assess risks, investigate issues, and implement effective mitigation strategies.
