Senior Prototype Vehicle Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Prototype Vehicle Technician to join our dynamic team. This is not a traditional technician position—it's a pivotal, high-impact role that sits at the intersection of mechanical, electrical, and software systems. You’ll be instrumental in supporting the development of cutting-edge electric vehicle (EV) technology, playing a hands-on role in the assembly, integration, and troubleshooting of prototype vehicles. Working side-by-side with engineering teams, you’ll help bring new vehicle features to life and solve complex, cross-domain issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute advanced assembly, modification, maintenance, and repairs across prototype vehicle systems—including electrical, thermal, mechanical, and propulsion domains.
  • Lead diagnostics and root cause analysis for complex, multi-system vehicle issues involving both hardware and software components.
  • Operate advanced diagnostic and analysis tools (e.g., CANalyzer, Vehicle Spy) to interrogate vehicle networks, analyze data logs, and verify issue resolution.
  • Perform software-related tasks such as ECU flashing, configuration updates, and module programming throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Manage vehicle bring-up processes for new prototype builds, major software drops, and system integration efforts to ensure baseline functionality.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams—Software, Calibration, Systems Integration, and Testing—to identify, escalate, and resolve technical challenges.
  • Fabricate or modify components using specialized equipment to support development objectives or resolve specific issues.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate records of technical work, including configurations, modifications, diagnostics, software versions, and resolutions.
  • Contribute to the refinement and creation of technical processes for diagnostics, software updates, prototype assembly, and vehicle commissioning.
  • Support test and validation activities by preparing vehicles, installing sensors, and providing in-situ troubleshooting during test events.
  • Uphold the highest standards for safety, cleanliness, and organization in the workshop environment.
  • Oversee and maintain inventory of specialized tools, parts, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior technicians as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5–7+ years of hands-on experience as an automotive technician, ideally with a focus on R&D or prototype environments.
  • Strong track record in advanced diagnostics and resolving complex electrical, mechanical, and software system issues.
  • Proficiency with mechanical tools, fabrication equipment, and advanced diagnostic systems including CAN tools.
  • Ability to interpret engineering documents, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to technical challenges.
  • Strong documentation skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Capable of working independently or leading as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to translate technical issues across functions.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of vehicle subsystems including embedded controls, hydraulics, and HV systems.
  • Skilled in computer-based diagnostic software and vehicle communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or technical certification in Automotive Technology, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with electric vehicle (EV) prototypes or platforms.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition tools, issue tracking systems (e.g., Jira), and diagnostics platforms.
  • Exposure to automotive software development cycles and systems integration.
  • Experience supporting calibration or multi-domain integration activities.
  • Working knowledge of high-voltage vehicle systems and related safety protocols.
