Position Summary
The Senior Electrical and Instrumentation (E/I) Engineer provides advanced engineering expertise in the design and construction of Direct Reduction plants and supports new technology initiatives. This role also leads E/I commissioning and startup activities as needed. Supervisory Responsibilities
While this role does not include direct reports, the Senior E/I Engineer will act as the discipline lead, assigning tasks to engineers and designers and providing technical guidance across projects. Key Responsibilities
- Perform electrical system design and analysis using standard engineering calculations.
- Develop conceptual sketches and coordinate with designers to produce E/I drawings.
- Collaborate with Process Engineering and other disciplines to develop and maintain P&IDs and instrument lists.
- Create logic diagrams (E9s) based on P&IDs, vendor documentation, and functional descriptions.
- Design and specify Process Control Systems (DCS), including hardware and software requirements.
- Lead E/I design efforts, ensuring quality, schedule adherence, and coordination with other disciplines.
- Review and approve vendor documentation, ensuring integration into detailed design.
- Support field activities including inspections, commissioning, and startup.
- Provide technical support to internal departments and external consultants.
- Contribute to the development and integration of new technologies.
Required:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic AutoCAD tools.
- Strong technical writing and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Experience with DCS/PLC systems, including specification and troubleshooting.
- Experience with international projects and industrial plant environments.
- Familiarity with NEC/NFPA codes and hazardous area design.
- Knowledge of power systems, instrumentation, and SIS/SIL design.
- Willingness to pursue PE certification if required.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in an industrial or technical environment (steel industry experience is a plus).
- 10%–25% annually, with potential for increased travel during project commissioning phases.
