Senior Automation & Controls Engineer  in the food, consumer products, pharmaceutical, life sciences, aerospace, and industrial sectors,
Location:  Kansas City, MO
Salary Range:  $87,500 – $125,000
Travel:  ~25% Seeking a highly experienced  Senior Automation & Controls Engineer  to lead design and execution for large-scale  EPC projects  in the food, consumer products, pharmaceutical, life sciences, aerospace, and industrial sectors. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge automation systems and contribute to high-impact projects from concept through commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead automation and controls design, including PLC/HMI programming, SCADA, MES, and virtualization.
  • Manage deliverables such as control panel layouts, I/O lists, narratives, and installation drawings.
  • Oversee instrumentation selection, electrical design (480VAC and below), and vendor coordination.
  • Support commissioning, startup, and field troubleshooting.
  • Interface with clients, vendors, and internal teams across disciplines.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support hiring and resource planning.
  • Contribute to business development and proposal preparation.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Controls, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering (ABET accredited).
  • 7+ years of experience in automation and controls engineering, preferably in EPC environments.
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA, ISA, IEC, IEEE, UL508A, ISO13849, and ISA/IEC 61511 standards.
  • Experience with Rockwell, Siemens, GE, Modicon, Opto22, Mitsubishi, Triconex PLCs.
  • SCADA experience with FactoryTalk, Wonderware, Ignition (preferred).
  • Familiarity with tools like  SISTEMA, CCW, IAB, BatchSIM, PlantSIM.
  • PE license and TWIC card preferred.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
