Molecular Biology Research Scientist
Key role Responsibilities:
Synthetic Biology/Molecular Biology/Protein Production
- Alongside senior technical staff, carry out the experimental design, planning, and execution of in-house HTS molecular biology workflows for viral antigen production efforts.
- Work with senior staffs to develop and optimize experimental assays to meet project objectives.
- Comply with study protocols and maintain scientific norms (contain appropriate positive and negative controls, replicates, standards, etc.) to appropriately achieve goals set forth in study plans.
- Assemble, purify, and characterize the DNA with various enzymatic reactions and analytical techniques, including electrophoresis, RE digestion, Gibson assembly, Golden Gate assembly, HiFi DNA assembly, PCR, transformation, DNA/RNA extraction, UV/Vis spectrophotometry, sequencing, RT-PCR, CE-SDS, DLS, or other functional activity assay.
- Hands-on experience with scientific software for advanced data analytics and visualization is a plus: Geneious, SnapGene, Sequencher, Prism, or Tableau.
- May be involved in protein expression and purification from mammalian cells, bacterial cells, insect cells, or pseudovirus production.
- Analyze the data and record the lab work in Benchling and GDB. Work with internal Automation/Digital/Computational teams to implement data management best practices and ensure that data will be formatted for AI and ML applications.
- Summarize and present the results in the group.
- Work with others in an agile working environment.
- Database and inventory management.
- Support method development for liquid handlers and scheduling software.
- Demonstrate technical proficiency with the ability to problem solve in a broad array of experimental protocols. Ability to find tactical solutions to challenges.
- Help to co-lead, monitor, and maintain facility-related aspects of the lab and lab equipment as needed.
- Ability and willingness to train others on cross-functional assays as well as develop or streamline new methodologies as needed.
- Present concise scientific presentations in line with project objectives.
- Support and, in some cases, lead internal site-specific projects.
- Assist with publications, proposals, reports, patents, and grant applications.
- Critically evaluate relevant literature to provide experimental and strategic input to senior team members as needed.
- Actively take part in the training of technical staff.
- Performance-oriented with the ability to deliver against extremely aggressive timelines.
- Display a high degree of integrity; decide and act in the best interest of the Company.
GRP and HSE
- Comply with the company safety policies and HSE to minimize risk to self, others, and the environment, consistent with HSE policies, community, and industry standards.
- Identify and help to improve best practices in HSE operations.
- Ensure documentation of laboratory experiments is entered in ELSE in a timely manner: analyze and summarize experimental outcomes, record experimental procedures, and raw and analyzed data.
- Participate in generating/reviewing SOPs and other required documents.
- Remain compliant with applicable trainings.
Ph.D. in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, microbiology, virology, or related fields with 0-2 years of industrial laboratory experience, or BS/MS in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, microbiology, virology, or related fields with 5+ years of laboratory experience, preferably in high-throughput engineering with molecular/synthetic biology or equivalent discipline.
Extensive expertise in hands-on experience in synthetic biology, molecular cloning, and protein expression in various upstream systems.
Experience with integrated automation platforms, stand-alone automated liquid handlers, or semi-automatic tools in assay use.
Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration, leadership, and problem-solving skills are required.
