Prototype Vehicle Technician

Join our dynamic team as a Prototype Vehicle Technician, where you’ll play a key hands-on role in building, modifying, and maintaining cutting-edge prototype vehicles. This position is essential to bringing new automotive technologies to life and supporting advanced engineering initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
As a Prototype Vehicle Technician, you will:

  • Assemble prototype vehicles and components in accordance with detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and instructions.
  • Modify and upgrade prototype vehicles to reflect evolving design changes and performance improvements.
  • Conduct diagnostic evaluations across vehicle systems—including electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic—to identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Fabricate, fit, and install custom components and assemblies as needed.
  • Document all work accurately, including modifications, repairs, and test results.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and designers to troubleshoot issues and implement practical solutions.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and company policies throughout all operations.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace.
  • Support vehicle testing and assist with data collection efforts.
  • Contribute to the creation and refinement of assembly and repair procedures.
  • Manage and track inventory of tools, materials, and components.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3–5 years of experience as an automotive technician, ideally in a prototype or R&D environment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with proven diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Proficient in using hand tools, power tools, diagnostic devices, and fabrication equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, schematics, and engineering blueprints
  • Attention to detail with a high standard for accuracy and craftsmanship
  • Capable of working independently or within a collaborative team setting
  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of vehicle systems including electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with diagnostic tools, CAN software, and related technologies

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or technical certification in Automotive Technology
  • Previous hands-on experience with prototype vehicle builds or work in a research and development setting

 

Estimated Min Rate: $40.00
Estimated Max Rate: $50.00
