Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Product Owner with direct experience in the residential homebuilding, construction, or construction technology industry to lead the evolution of a SaaS platform designed specifically for home builders. This role requires someone who understands how builders operate—from sales, purchasing, construction scheduling, and accounting through project completion—and can translate those workflows into impactful product enhancements.
This is not a strategy-only role. You will own the day-to-day execution of the product, manage a small Agile team, prioritize the backlog, work directly with customers, and ensure the platform continues solving real-world challenges for residential home builders.
The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of builder operations, construction workflows, ERP/accounting integrations, and software product management, along with a passion for driving customer adoption and delivering measurable business value.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Drive product adoption, customer engagement, and market growth within the residential homebuilding industry.
- Partner directly with home builders, construction managers, purchasing teams, and business stakeholders to understand operational challenges and identify opportunities for product enhancement.
- Gather customer feedback and transform builder needs into actionable product requirements and roadmap initiatives.
- Develop and execute product initiatives tied to measurable business outcomes, customer retention, and utilization metrics.
- Own the product suite end-to-end, including backlog management, sprint planning, release planning, and roadmap execution.
- Serve as the primary voice of the customer, ensuring product decisions align with builder workflows and industry best practices.
- Prioritize features and enhancements based on customer value, business impact, and technical feasibility.
- Collaborate with Product Leadership to align tactical execution with long-term product strategy.
- Lead release planning and communicate delivery expectations to internal stakeholders and customers.
- Develop a deep understanding of residential homebuilding operations, including:
- Construction scheduling
- Purchasing and procurement
- Job costing
- Change orders
- Vendor and subcontractor management
- Accounting and financial processes
- Production and field operations
- Work directly with builders to understand how information flows from sales through construction and accounting systems.
- Identify opportunities to streamline builder processes through automation, workflow improvements, and technology enhancements.
- Ensure product functionality aligns with the operational realities of residential construction businesses.
- Manage day-to-day execution of a major modernization initiative, transitioning the platform from a legacy ColdFusion application to a modern browser-based solution utilizing .NET web services and Blazor.
- Balance support and enhancement of the existing platform while guiding development of the next-generation solution.
- Partner closely with development, QA, and business teams to ensure successful delivery of modernization milestones.
- Lead and mentor a growing Agile product team consisting of Business Analysts, QA Engineers, and Software Developers.
- Remove obstacles impacting team productivity and successful sprint delivery.
- Foster accountability, collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement.
- Help establish product management best practices, standards, and processes.
- Champion AI initiatives across both the product and the team.
- Identify opportunities to deliver meaningful AI-powered capabilities that simplify builder workflows and improve operational efficiency.
- Utilize AI tools and automation to accelerate research, planning, product delivery, and decision-making.
- Collaborate with leadership and development teams to prioritize and deliver AI-enabled product features.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of Product Owner, Product Manager, or similar product leadership experience within a B2B SaaS environment.
- Direct experience within the residential homebuilding, construction, construction technology, or building products industry.
- Strong understanding of homebuilder business processes, construction operations, and workflow management.
- Experience working with software platforms that support residential construction, project management, purchasing, accounting, scheduling, estimating, or ERP functions.
- Demonstrated ability to work directly with builders, construction professionals, and business stakeholders to gather requirements and drive product decisions.
- Strong understanding of transaction-based business systems and workflow processes.
- Experience managing Agile product backlogs, sprint planning, and release planning.
- Experience leading or working closely with software development teams.
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proven ability to drive user adoption, customer engagement, and business outcomes.
- AI-first mindset with demonstrated experience leveraging AI tools to improve productivity and product delivery.
- Experience working for a homebuilder, construction technology company, ERP provider, or software platform serving the residential construction industry.
- Familiarity with homebuilding software platforms, construction management systems, or builder ERP solutions.
- Experience supporting integrations with Sage Intacct, Sage 300, QuickBooks Desktop, or QuickBooks Online.
- Experience with .NET, Blazor, SaaS modernization initiatives, or legacy application transformation projects.
- Experience with AWS and cloud-hosted application environments.
- Experience delivering AI/ML-powered features such as chatbots, predictive analytics, recommendation engines, or generative AI solutions.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Construction Management, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
