Polymer Characterization Engineer - Data Management
Product Design Polymers Team is looking for an experienced polymer characterization engineer/scientist with data management skills
to join the Polymer Engineering group within our Product Design department.
Responsibilities:
- Perform polymer characterization techniques, such as rheology, DMA, FTIR, TGA, DSC, GPC, TMA, tensile testing, creep, fatigue, falling dart impact, chemical resistance testing, optical microscopy, laser interferometry and surface energy measurements. Ability to execute testing beyond standardized protocols (e.g. ASTM, ISO)
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive data governance policies, standards, and procedures to ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance
- Implement and monitor data quality checks, validation rules, and cleansing processes to ensure accuracy and reliability of all data assets.
- Assisst with the design, development, maintenance, and optimization of databases
- Drive hands-on scientific studies of material performance, from DOE plan, to operating characterization instrumentation and analyzing final data
Job Qualifications:
- MS required, preferably in polymer chemistry or material science.
- Advanced knowledge of the structure-property relationships in polymers that govern mechanical performance, material aesthetics, and overall function
- Experience using analytical test equipment mentioned above.
- Excellent housekeeping and lab management practices.
- Proficiency with python and SQL languages.
- Working understanding of Windows and Unix file systems.
- Thoughtfulness about data quality - accuracy, traceability, findability, interoperability
- Experience with data management and modeling best practices
- Experience interacting with, configuring, or managing modern data platforms such as electronic notebooks
- Experience with windows networking and automation
- Experience establishing laboratory data infrastructure and pipelines. Modern data engineering tools such as airflow or dbt.
- Development of scheduled jobs or automated data collection from instruments
