PCB Rework Technician (Evening Shift, 5pm–2am)
This role supports engineering, validation, and bring-up activities by performing high-reliability PCB rework on advanced hardware platforms, including boards with custom ASICs and very large BGAs. The technician will execute complex board-level repairs with a strong emphasis on precision, repeatability, and first-pass yield in a fast-paced R&D environment.
Scope:
• Perform precision rework and re-balling of very large BGA packages, including custom ASICs greater than 70 mm.
• Operate large-format BGA rework systems with precise alignment, controlled thermal profiles, and clean reflow on high-pin-count devices.
• Rework SMT and through-hole components down to 0402 packages with consistent, production-quality workmanship.
• Execute advanced board-level repairs including trace cuts, jumper-wire additions, micro-soldering, and circuit rerouting.
• Inspect reworked assemblies using X-ray or AOI to verify solder joint integrity, alignment, and overall quality.
Required:
• 5+ years of hands-on PCB rework experience on production and/or R&D hardware.
• Demonstrated expertise with very large BGAs (>70 mm), fine-pitch QFNs/BGAs, and 0402-scale components.
• Proficiency operating advanced hot-air and IR rework platforms, precision microscopes, and large-area heaters.
• Ability to read and interpret ECNs, schematics, layout files, and BOMs to accurately execute rework instructions.
• Working knowledge of IPC-A-610 and IPC-7711/21 rework and workmanship standards.
Pluses:
• Experience operating and programming X-ray or AOI inspection systems.
• Experience re-balling custom ASIC packages and handling ultra-large, high-pin-count ICs.
• Ability to develop or optimize thermal profiles for challenging package types, including high-power or stacked-die BGAs.
• Experience documenting rework activity in MES or PLM systems and providing design-for-rework feedback.
• Experience supporting engineering bring-up with rapid component swaps, blue-wire fixes, and iterative board modifications.
