Title: Payroll Administrator
Compensation:$40 - $50/hr, flexible depending on experience
Type: Contract (3–6 months; potential to convert or extend based on performance)
Industry: Aerospace & Defense Technology
Location: San Diego, CA (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)
Eligibility: Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder (ITAR / CUI environment)
Responsibilities
- Support payroll processing for a large, multi-state employee population, ensuring accuracy and timely submission
- Maintain and update employee records across HRIS and ERP systems, including compensation, benefits, and personal data changes
- Validate payroll inputs such as timekeeping data, deductions, and benefits enrollments
- Perform payroll-related reconciliations, including retirement contributions and benefits deductions
- Leverage Excel to analyze and reconcile data across multiple systems, ensuring consistency and accuracy
- Partner cross-functionally with HR and accounting to resolve discrepancies and improve data integrity
- Assist with internal and external audit requests by compiling and validating required payroll documentation
- Manage internal communications related to payroll updates, changes, and inquiries
- Ensure adherence to compliance standards and adapt to evolving payroll processes as the organization scales
- 4+ years of payroll administration or related experience within a mid-to-large scale organization (1,000+ employees preferred)
- Experience supporting multi-state payroll operations (40+ preferred)
- Strong Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and lookup functions
- Experience with HRIS platforms such as UKG, Workday, ADP, or similar
- Exposure to ERP systems
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams
- Ability to take direction, work independently, and escalate issues when appropriate
- Adaptable mindset with the ability to operate effectively in a changing, high-growth environment
- Experience supporting payroll audits (e.g., 401k, compliance audits)
- Basic understanding of payroll-related accounting concepts
- Background in regulated industries such as aerospace, defense, or government contracting
- Exposure to benefits reconciliation processes
- Hybrid schedule: 3 days onsite, 2 days remote (downtown San Diego; hoteling workspace)
- Standard hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM onsite; additional flexibility required during payroll processing cycles
- Payroll periods may require extended hours and responsiveness outside of standard working hours
