We are seeking an experienced Techno-Functional Business Systems Analyst / Project Manager to play a key role in an upcoming Microsoft Dynamics AX to Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 F&O) migration and upgrade initiative.
This individual will serve as a primary liaison between internal business stakeholders, IT teams, developers, and our selected implementation partner. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience supporting or leading Dynamics AX to D365 upgrade/migration projects, with the ability to evaluate, coordinate, and implement moves, adds, changes, enhancements, configurations, and customizations within the ERP environment.
This is a permanent role that will support the organization throughout the implementation lifecycle and transition into an ongoing D365 application support, administration, enhancement, and optimization role following go-live.
We are looking to bring this individual onboard prior to project kickoff so they can gain a strong understanding of our current AX environment, business processes, integrations, data, customizations, and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- AX to D365 Migration & Project Delivery: Serve as an internal subject matter resource throughout the Dynamics AX to D365 F&O migration, partnering with the implementation vendor, internal IT, developers, and business stakeholders from discovery through go-live and stabilization.
- Application Moves, Adds & Changes: Own and coordinate ongoing moves, adds, changes, enhancements, and modifications across the AX/D365 application environment. Evaluate business requests, determine system impact, document requirements, define acceptance criteria, and oversee changes through development, testing, deployment, and production support.
- Configuration & Customization: Evaluate whether business requirements can be addressed through standard D365 configuration, workflow changes, extensions, integrations, reporting changes, or custom development. Partner with technical resources on required customizations while helping the organization minimize unnecessary customization of the D365 platform.
- Business & Technical Requirements: Lead requirements-gathering sessions to document current-state processes and define future-state requirements. Translate business needs into detailed functional requirements, technical requirements, user stories, process flows, and system specifications.
- Application Enhancement Management: Manage requests for new functionality and enhancements following established change-management processes. Analyze requested changes for impacts to modules, integrations, data, security roles, workflows, reporting, and other business processes.
- Fit-Gap & Customization Analysis: Perform fit-gap analysis between the organization's existing AX functionality and D365 capabilities. Identify which legacy AX customizations should be retained, redesigned, replaced with native D365 functionality, or retired as part of the migration.
- Project Management & Vendor Coordination: Help manage project timelines, milestones, dependencies, risks, issues, change requests, and deliverables. Act as a knowledgeable internal advocate when working with the D365 implementation partner and challenge proposed solutions when they do not align with business or technical requirements.
- Functional Configuration: Participate in the configuration and ongoing support of applicable D365 modules such as General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, Procurement, Inventory Management, and Warehouse Management.
- Technical & Integration Coordination: Work closely with developers, architects, and vendors on interfaces, integrations, APIs, data entities, workflows, reports, batch processes, and custom extensions, ensuring technical solutions align with business requirements.
- Data Migration & Mapping: Support source-to-target mapping, legacy AX data analysis, cleansing, transformation, conversion, financial reconciliation, validation, and cutover activities.
- Testing & Release Validation: Develop and coordinate test scenarios for SIT, UAT, regression testing, and post-deployment validation. Ensure moves, adds, changes, configurations, and customizations are properly tested before being introduced into production.
- Security & Role Changes: Partner with IT and business leadership to manage changes to D365 security roles, duties, privileges, user access, workflows, and segregation-of-duties requirements as the organization evolves.
- Cutover & Go-Live: Support release planning, cutover, go-live readiness, deployment validation, issue resolution, and post-production hypercare.
- Documentation & Change Management: Maintain documentation for business processes, system configurations, customizations, workflows, integrations, application changes, test results, and operating procedures.
- Post-Go-Live Application Ownership: Following implementation, serve as a key resource for D365 application support, production issues, moves/adds/changes, configuration changes, enhancements, customizations, upgrades, release management, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX and Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations.
- Experience participating in or leading an AX to D365 upgrade, migration, or transformation project.
- Demonstrated experience supporting application moves, adds, changes, configurations, enhancements, and customizations within Dynamics AX or D365.
- Ability to determine when a business requirement should be solved through configuration versus customization or development.
- Experience gathering and translating requirements between business users, developers, architects, infrastructure teams, and implementation partners.
- Strong understanding of the ERP lifecycle, including requirements, fit-gap analysis, configuration, customization, development coordination, integrations, data migration, testing, deployment, cutover, and production support.
- Experience coordinating SIT, UAT, regression testing, defect management, and production validation.
- Experience with ERP data migration, mapping, reconciliation, and legacy-system conversion.
- Strong project management skills, including management of scope, timelines, risks, issues, dependencies, change requests, and vendor deliverables.
