Histotechnologist  needed for a contract opportunity with Yoh Scientific’s client located in  Collegeville, PA.
 
This position requires a Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Histotechnology, Medical Laboratory Science, or Biological Sciences. Schedule is  full-time M-F (7am-8am start time, 8 hour shift)  and may require flexibility to work some evenings and overtime due to projects.
 
Primary Duties:
The Histotechnologist will play a critical role in supporting computational pathology, biomarker discovery, and translational research initiatives through the preparation, processing, staining, imaging, and quality assessment of tissue specimens. This position is responsible for generating high-quality histological samples and digital pathology images that serve as foundational inputs for downstream computational analysis, image analysis algorithm development, machine learning applications, and biomarker quantification efforts.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
Laboratory Operations
  • Perform routine and specialized histology procedures supporting research and computational pathology programs.
  • Process tissue specimens according to established laboratory protocols and study requirements.
  • Prepare paraffin-embedded tissue blocks for downstream sectioning and analysis.
  • Perform tissue embedding, orientation, trimming, and block preparation.
  • Ensure proper tissue preservation and sample integrity throughout laboratory workflows.
  • Maintain accurate specimen tracking and chain-of-custody documentation.
Microtomy & Tissue Sectioning
  • Perform precision microtomy for preparation of high-quality tissue sections.
  • Generate tissue sections meeting project-specific thickness and quality requirements.
  • Prepare serial sections for biomarker analysis, image analysis studies, and assay development.
  • Troubleshoot sectioning issues such as:
    • Tissue folding
    • Compression artifacts
    • Chatter
    • Knife marks
    • Incomplete sections
  • Ensure consistency and reproducibility across tissue preparation activities.
Histological Staining & Assay Support
  • Perform routine and specialized staining procedures including:
    • Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E)
    • Immunohistochemistry (IHC)
    • Immunofluorescence (IF)
    • Special stains
    • Multiplex staining protocols
  • Support development and optimization of tissue-based assays.
  • Prepare slides for biomarker analysis and pathology review.
  • Monitor staining quality and ensure adherence to laboratory standards.
  • Troubleshoot staining inconsistencies and assay performance issues.
Automated Staining Platforms
  • Operate and maintain automated staining systems including:
    • Ventana Discovery Ultra
    • Leica Bond RX
    • Other automated histology instrumentation as required
  • Develop and optimize staining protocols.
  • Monitor reagent usage and instrument performance.
  • Support preventive maintenance and troubleshooting activities.
  • Ensure compliance with manufacturer operating procedures and quality standards.
Quality Control & Quality Assurance
  • Perform quality control assessments throughout all histology processes.
  • Evaluate tissue sections and stained slides for technical adequacy.
  • Document and investigate quality issues, deviations, and non-conformances.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions when necessary.
  • Maintain compliance with laboratory quality standards and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
  • Participate in laboratory audits and quality improvement initiatives.
Laboratory Documentation & Compliance
  • Maintain detailed laboratory records and documentation.
  • Ensure accurate recording of specimen information, processing activities, and quality assessments.
  • Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
  • Support compliance with laboratory regulations, quality systems, and organizational policies.
  • Participate in training and competency assessment programs.
 
Qualifications:
  • Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Histotechnology, Medical Laboratory Science, or Biological Sciences.
  • Certifications such as HT (Histotechnician) Certification through ASCP, HTL (Histotechnologist) Certification through ASCP, Active HTL certification.
  • Additional certifications related to histology, pathology, or laboratory operations
  • Minimum 3 years of histology laboratory experience.
  • Experience performing tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and slide preparation.
  • Experience operating histology laboratory instrumentation.
  • Experience supporting computational pathology workflows.
  • Familiarity with image analysis and digital pathology platforms.
  • Experience generating tissue samples for machine learning and computational image analysis applications.
  • Knowledge of biomarker discovery and translational research methodologies.
  • Experience working within regulated laboratory environments.
  • Familiarity with LIMS and laboratory data management systems.
  • Understanding of tissue-based assay development and validation processes.


 

Estimated Min Rate: $25.00
