Functional Safety Software Engineer/ Lead
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a primary technical resource and subject matter expert for software development teams on functional safety principles, ISO 26262 compliance, and best practices for RTOS and microcontroller safety.
- Derive robust technical safety requirements for RTOS and microcontroller-level software.
- Review and provide critical feedback on software safety architectures and designs, ensuring they effectively mitigate risks related to RTOS configurations, scheduling, memory protection, and microcontroller-specific safety features (e.g., Watchdog Timers, ECC, MPU, Self-Test Libraries).
- Define, improve, and evangelize functional safety processes and guidelines for software development, including coding standards (e.g., MISRA C/C++), static analysis rules, and test methodologies.
- Guide teams in developing comprehensive verification and validation strategies, including unit, integration, and system-level testing, with a focus on fault injection and robustness testing for safety-critical software.
- Evaluate, select, and support the qualification of development and testing tools (e.g., compilers, debuggers, static analysis tools) for use in safety-critical software environments.
Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in embedded software development, with at least 3 years specifically focused on functional safety in automotive or similar safety-critical domains (Automotive preferred).
- Demonstrated expertise in applying the ISO 26262 standard (or IEC 61508) throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Extensive experience with RTOS concepts, architecture, and configuration in a safety-critical context.
- Deep understanding of microcontroller architectures (e.g., ARM Cortex-M/R, AURIX, PowerPC) and their integrated safety mechanisms.
- Proven experience in a supportive or lead role, guiding other engineers or teams on technical and process aspects of functional safety.
- Strong background in C/C++ programming for embedded systems, with an ability to review and provide expert feedback on code quality and safety aspects.
- In-depth knowledge of embedded hardware and software interfaces.
- Familiarity with debugging tools (e.g., JTAG, Lauterbach TRACE32) and version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Expertise with static code analysis tools (e.g., Polyspace, QAC) and dynamic analysis techniques as applied to safety-critical software.
- Knowledge of automotive communication protocols (e.g., CAN, LIN, Ethernet).
