The Lab Analyst performs preparatory and analytical laboratory methods within an assigned laboratory section or discipline. This role supports laboratory operations through sample analysis, data interpretation, quality control activities, and assistance with instrumentation troubleshooting and maintenance, while ensuring compliance with all applicable quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities Laboratory Analysis and Operations
- Perform sample preparation and analytical testing using laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Observe analytical processes, analyze data, interpret results, and perform required calculations.
- Document analytical results and maintain accurate raw data records.
- Enter and manage data within the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Assist with troubleshooting laboratory instrumentation, equipment, and analytical methodologies.
- Communicate maintenance and troubleshooting observations to senior staff or management.
- Assist with maintenance and repair coordination and document maintenance activities in LIMS.
- Perform quality control procedures to ensure data accuracy, validity, and traceability.
- Review, follow, and comply with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Assist with corrective and preventive action investigations.
- Maintain required records, including:
- Demonstration of Capability (DOC)
- Method Detection Limit (MDL)
- Limit of Detection (LOD)
- Training records
- Ensure compliance with:
- ELS Quality System Manual (QSM)
- NELAP requirements
- State and federal regulations
- Client-specific Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs)
- Follow ELS safety policies and chemical hygiene plans.
- Complete required training and annual certifications.
- Transport hazardous waste materials to designated storage areas.
- Monitor consumable inventory and submit order requests through LIMS.
- May perform duties associated with the ELS Technician role.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisor or management.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Prior laboratory support or analytical experience
- Relevant college coursework or degree
- Hazardous waste materials management
- Laboratory safety and environmental procedures
- Sample extraction and analytical methods
- Quantitative analytical chemistry principles
- Laboratory instrumentation and procedures
- Basic electronics and mechanical concepts
- Data entry and laboratory software systems
- Analytical instrument software
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively
- Inventory monitoring and documentation
- Clear verbal and written communication
- Team collaboration and interpersonal skills
- Planning and prioritization of work
- Adherence to safety and compliance procedures
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, and spreadsheets
- Accurate and consistent data entry
- Maintain strong safety awareness

- Primarily laboratory-based
- Occasional travel or customer site work
- May require weekends, holidays, or non-standard work hours
- Exposure to noise, hazardous chemicals and waste, high-speed rotating machinery, pressurized gases, and flammable materials
- Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Constant standing and walking
- Frequent use of keyboard and mouse
- Frequent laboratory preparation and glassware handling
- Lift and carry up to 80 lbs
- Push or pull up to 150 lbs
- Occasional climbing, crouching, crawling, and ladder use
- Occasional overhead lifting up to 20 lbs
