Embedded Linux / Yocto Engineer (i.MX6 ? i.MX8 Migration) Overview
We are seeking an experienced Embedded Linux / Yocto Engineer to support the migration of an existing i.MX6-based platform to i.MX8. This role will focus on modernizing a legacy Yocto Sumo environment, updating BSP components, and ensuring application compatibility on new hardware.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and configure a new Yocto build environment targeting i.MX8
  • Analyze and assess existing Yocto Sumo (EOL) environment and build (i.MX6)
  • Migrate and convert legacy Yocto recipes to current standards (automated and manual)
  • Update and integrate third-party components, including QML GStreamer plugins
  • Modify and update U-Boot for new hardware platform
  • Convert and maintain Device Tree configurations for i.MX8
  • Support application layer integration and ensure successful cross-compilation
  • Troubleshoot build, boot, and runtime issues across the stack
Required Qualifications

  • Strong experience with Yocto Project (including legacy versions like Sumo)
  • Hands-on experience with NXP i.MX platforms (i.MX6 and i.MX8 preferred)
  • Solid understanding of BSP development, U-Boot, and Device Trees
  • Experience porting embedded Linux systems across hardware platforms
  • Familiarity with multimedia frameworks (GStreamer, QML integration)
  • Strong debugging skills across bootloader, kernel, and user space
Nice to Have

  • Experience with Variscite modules or similar SOMs
  • Background working with EOL Yocto migrations
  • Scripting experience for recipe/tooling automation


Estimated Min Rate: $80.00
Estimated Max Rate: $85.00
