Position Summary
We are seeking a Data Governance & Data Risk/Assurance Consultant to help launch a new enterprise Data Risk/Assurance function. This individual will partner with Data Governance, Risk, Technology, Privacy, Compliance, and business stakeholders to establish governance standards, build control frameworks, support assurance activities, and improve enterprise data risk management practices.
This is a hands-on consulting role responsible for translating governance policies into actionable controls, supporting governance assessments, developing executive reporting and metrics, driving remediation efforts, and assisting with the creation of an Enterprise End User Computing (EUC) governance framework.
 
Key Responsibilities
Data Governance
  • Support development and implementation of enterprise Data Governance policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Translate governance requirements into measurable control requirements.
  • Document governance processes, operating models, roles, and responsibilities.
  • Improve governance practices across:
    • Data Quality
    • Metadata
    • Data Classification
    • Data Retention
    • Data Lifecycle Management
  • Facilitate workshops with business and technology stakeholders.
Data Risk & Control Framework
  • Develop and maintain enterprise Data Control Frameworks.
  • Design and document internal controls.
  • Create certification, assessment, and testing procedures.
  • Develop control inventories and traceability between policies, standards, controls, risks, and remediation activities.
  • Support governance reviews and control effectiveness assessments.
Risk Management
  • Maintain governance risk inventories and taxonomies.
  • Support Rapid Risk Assessments (RRAs).
  • Track remediation plans, ownership, milestones, and status.
  • Assist with audit preparation and issue remediation.
  • Document findings, recommendations, and corrective actions.
Metrics & Reporting
  • Develop KRIs, KPIs, and governance metrics.
  • Create executive dashboards and committee reporting.
  • Measure governance maturity, compliance, risk reduction, and control effectiveness.
  • Develop governance scorecards.
End User Computing (EUC) Governance
  • Assist with development of enterprise EUC standards and procedures.
  • Inventory and classify EUC assets (spreadsheets, databases, scripts, reporting tools).
  • Define risk-based control requirements.
  • Develop governance processes for:
    • Identification
    • Classification
    • Attestation
    • Monitoring
    • Remediation
  • Research industry best practices and regulatory expectations.
Documentation
  • Create governance documentation, process flows, executive presentations, and operating models.
  • Maintain project plans, governance artifacts, and action logs.
  • Produce executive-ready documentation and recommendations.
 
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in one or more of the following:
    • Data Governance
    • Data Risk
    • Data Management
    • Technology Risk
    • Operational Risk
  • Experience developing governance policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Strong business analysis and documentation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
