Title: Data Governance Coordinator
Location: Remote
Compensation:$40.00–$60.00/hr, DOE
Type: Contract
Eligibility: Must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder (ITAR / CUI environment)
Responsibilities
- Maintain and manage the organization's KPI and metric registry, ensuring definitions, ownership, approvals, and supporting metadata remain accurate and up to date.
- Coordinate with business and technical stakeholders to identify data owners, stewards, and approvers for key datasets and business metrics.
- Track governance workflows and approval progress, escalating issues that could impact project timelines or data ownership.
- Maintain governance documentation, ensuring metadata, business glossaries, and data catalogs accurately reflect production data assets.
- Support metadata management by validating table and column descriptions, ownership information, classifications, and data lineage.
- Ensure governance documentation remains aligned with assets being onboarded into the enterprise data platform.
- Monitor governance metrics related to data ownership, lineage, documentation completeness, and classification to support audits and operational reporting.
- Coordinate governance meetings, action items, stakeholder communications, and follow-up activities across multiple teams.
- Recommend process improvements that streamline governance workflows, documentation standards, and cross-functional coordination.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- 2+ years of experience in data governance, metadata management, data stewardship, data quality, analytics program coordination, or a related field.
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities across cross-functional teams.
- Working knowledge of data governance principles, including metadata management, data lineage, stewardship, classification, and access controls.
- Familiarity with Databricks, Unity Catalog, or similar modern data governance and catalog platforms.
- Excellent written communication and documentation skills with experience maintaining governance artifacts, trackers, and operational documentation.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment with changing priorities.
- Experience supporting governance activities within regulated or security-sensitive organizations is preferred.
- Experience with governance platforms such as Collibra, Atlan, or Alation is a plus.
- Prior experience supporting enterprise data platform implementations or governance program rollouts is preferred.
- Experience within defense, aerospace, healthcare, financial services, or another regulated industry is a plus.
