Pay Range- $42-$52 per hour w2 



Competitive Gaming is an exciting and burgeoning space within the landscape of gaming. As one of the leaders of the gaming industry,  is focused on the esports business both regionally and globally as a part of the strategic outlook on the future of gaming.
The Associate Data Scientist will use their deep passion and knowledge of video games and the industry, in conjunction with their passion and background in advanced analytics, to empower the  team with insights to drive the team’s KPIs through player engagement and monetization.
The position is based in San Mateo, CA and involves close coordination with members of the Competitive Gaming teams in Japan, US, and London. Monthly in-person meetings with the potential to travel to key locations for in-person meetings and presentations is expected for this role.

Projects range from advising on tournament investment and best practices to maximize team KPIs on engagement and revenue, to modeling incremental engagement of competitors. You will support thought leadership regarding all strategy and data-driven aspects of the group, including:
• Building creative and thought-provoking presentations in PowerPoint, Prezi, or your software of choice
• Testing and experimenting to improve upon best-in-class tournament competitions and maximize the engagement for key titles on PlayStation
• Drawing insights from a combination of deep video game knowledge and user analytics data which would allow publishers understand how to engage/re-engage/monetize players
• Crafting narratives for how  can help publishers optimize game-level engagement and revenue for third party publishers
• Querying data and creating methodologies to complete industry-shaping publisher projects that will drive revenue and engagement
• Supporting and presenting executive-level insights to internal teams and external publishers in an easy-to-follow way


Qualifications:
• Highly motivated with strong verbal and written communication skills
• 2-4 years of experience with proven skills in database query tools such as SQL and Knowledge of languages such as SQL and one of either Python or R
• 2-4 years of hands-on data analysis and running experiments from start to finish to drive change and improve business outcomes
• 3-5 years of story-telling and crafting compelling business studies by leveraging 1st or 3rd party data
• Strong mathematics skills (e.g. Statistics, Algebra, Calculus)
• Strong critical thinking, analytical skills, and an eye for business opportunities
• An ability to work well with others, learn/share opinions globally across departments and 3rd Party Publishers and Developers with stakeholders ranging from junior to executive level
Nice-to-have qualifications:
• Familiarity with big data technologies such as AWS, Google Analytics, Snowflake, and Adobe Analytics, Apache Airflow
• Experience with building scalable, automated data solutions and ETL processes
• A passion and familiarity with console/PC games with high level of intellectual curiosity about the industry
• Prior work experience in Media/Entertainment industry a plus but not required
• Experience with machine learning and modeling complex data features into comprehensible and actionable business insights
