Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end multi-state sales & use tax compliance, including filings, reconciliations, and remittances
- Oversee sales tax liability accounts and ensure accurate monthly close
- Prepare and review journal entries related to sales & use tax
- Manage exemption certificates and ensure proper tax treatment across transactions
- Serve as the subject matter expert for Avalara, including:
- Troubleshooting tax calculation issues
- Updating tax codes and configurations
- Ensuring accurate system outputs across entities
- Partner with IT and accounting to identify, investigate, and resolve data discrepancies
- Continuously improve tax automation and system accuracy
- Conduct and maintain nexus assessments across all states
- Support apportionment calculations and state tax exposure analysis
- Identify risk areas and recommend solutions to ensure compliance across jurisdictions
- Support tax processes across approximately 150 legal entities
- Ensure consistency and accuracy of tax treatment across a complex organizational structure
Requirements
- 5+ years of state and local tax experience, with strong focus on sales & use tax
- Hands-on experience with Avalara (configuration, troubleshooting, system updates)
- Strong understanding of multi-state nexus rules and apportionment
- Experience preparing sales & use tax journal entries and reconciliations
- Background working in multi-entity environments preferred
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
