Position Summary
A clinical-stage biotechnology company headquartered in the Bay Area is seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist, Proteomics to lead proteomics activities supporting preclinical drug discovery programs. In this role, you will develop, optimize, and implement global and targeted proteomics workflows, operate advanced LC-MS instrumentation, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to generate scientific insights that advance innovative oncology therapies.

This position is onsite and requires regular attendance at the company’s South San Francisco research facility.

What You’ll Do:
  • Lead the development and implementation of proteomics workflows supporting preclinical drug discovery programs
  • Develop and optimize in-house workflows for global, targeted, and enrichment-based proteomics applications
  • Perform sample preparation for global proteomics and enrichment-based applications, including phosphoproteomics
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot high-resolution mass spectrometry platforms and associated liquid chromatography systems
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external research partners to optimize and expand proteomics platforms and workflows
  • Analyze experimental results and communicate scientific findings to multidisciplinary project teams
  • Author, review, and maintain standard operating procedures and experimental protocols
  • Ensure research activities, experimental methods, and results are accurately documented in electronic systems
  • Present experimental data and scientific insights during project and department meetings
  • Manage multiple scientific priorities while maintaining high standards of quality, reproducibility, and scientific rigor
  • Contribute to a collaborative culture focused on scientific excellence and innovation
Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in biochemistry, chemistry, biology, or a related scientific discipline
  • Demonstrated scientific productivity through publications and/or significant research contributions
  • Experience developing and optimizing proteomics workflows
  • Hands-on experience preparing samples for global and enrichment-based proteomics applications, including phosphoproteomics
  • Hands-on experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting high-resolution mass spectrometry platforms and associated liquid chromatography systems
  • Demonstrated ability to independently solve complex scientific and technical challenges
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to scientific rigor
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary scientific teams
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with automation technologies used in proteomics workflows
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting proteomics datasets
  • Knowledge of protein-interaction workflows, including immunoprecipitation mass spectrometry, cross-linking mass spectrometry, and proximity-labeling approaches
  • Experience with targeted LC-MS acquisition methods
  • Experience with intact protein mass spectrometry workflows
