Our client is leading global digital media and streaming platform serving hundreds of millions of users daily. Their personalized Sessions engineering group manages the massive backend ecosystem behind our high-volume recommendation engines.They are building a dedicated engineering team to take ownership of the operation, maintenance, and technical debt reduction of over 1,000 stable, maintenance-mode backend services. This ensures our core ecosystem remains highly secure, efficient, and scalable.
What You’ll Do
- Production Operations: Act as the first line of defense in our incident response rotation—triaging production alerts and applying operational fixes (restarts, rollbacks, scaling).
- Infrastructure Modernization: Drive foundational upgrades, including Kubernetes version bumps, GCP migrations, quarterly dependency updates, and security patches.
- Observability Optimization: Ruthlessly reduce alert noise by tuning thresholds, optimizing PagerDuty routing, and setting up smart alert grouping.
- Technical Debt Reduction: Identify architectural bottlenecks, safely decommission unused services, and maintain elite runbook documentation to leave systems better than you found them.
Qualifications & Tech Stack
- Production Scale: 5+ years of experience deploying, operating, and maintaining distributed, high-volume backend systems in production.
- Core Languages: Senior-level proficiency in Java and/or Python backend development (ability to read, debug, and refactor existing codebases).
- Cloud & Containerization: Hands-on expertise with Kubernetes (K8s) and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Observability Ecosystem: Strong experience with monitoring and alerting tools like PagerDuty, Grafana, and Prometheus (PromQL).
- Systems Mindset: Proven ability to quickly triage incidents on systems you did not build using logs, dashboards, and runbooks.
- Modern Workflow: Comfortable utilizing AI coding assistants to accelerate migrations and refactoring work.
- Collaboration: Strong written communication skills with a track record of effective cross-team alignment.
