Type: Part-Time Temporary (Approx. 40 hours/month, flexible schedule)
Job Functions
- Support the setup and organization of a histopathology lab for a growing genetics-focused team.
- Independently process and prepare tissue specimens for histological analysis using established techniques.
- Perform embedding, sectioning, staining, and mounting of tissue samples with high accuracy and consistency.
- Maintain detailed and organized documentation of specimen processing and laboratory data in compliance with standards.
- Operate, maintain, and assist in calibration of laboratory equipment including microtomes, cryostats, and staining systems.
- Follow aseptic techniques and laboratory best practices to ensure specimen integrity and prevent contamination.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with technicians and team members supporting genetics-related work.
- Assist in establishing efficient workflows and supporting lab readiness as the team expands.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment.
Education and Experience
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in histopathology or histology specimen preparation is required.
- Proven experience with tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and mounting techniques.
- Ability to operate specialized laboratory equipment such as microtomes, cryostats, and staining systems.
- Knowledge of anatomy, pathology, and medical terminology related to tissue analysis preferred.
- Dermatopathology experience is a plus, but not required.
- Interest in gaining exposure to genetics and working cross-functionally within a laboratory setting.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively in a collaborative environment.
Physical Job Requirements
- Laboratory environment (onsite).
- Ability to handle biological specimens and laboratory chemicals safely.
- Regular use of hands and fingers to operate laboratory equipment and tools.
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods as needed.
- May require lifting up to 20 pounds.
- Visual abilities include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to focus on detailed work.
