The position requires a hands-on technology executive who understands the pace and complexity of store-floor, back-of-house, warehouse, grocery, hospitality, and high-volume transaction environments. The successful candidate will bring practical experience managing point-of-sale solutions, payment devices, retail applications, distribution systems, Microsoft Dynamics 365, customer engagement platforms, and business-critical integrations. Will oversee the technology supporting the full retail operating cycle—from item setup, purchasing, receiving, replenishment, and inventory availability through checkout, payment authorization, order fulfillment, returns, and customer service.
This individual will work closely with Store Operations, Merchandising, Supply Chain, Distribution, eCommerce, Marketing, Finance, Loss Prevention, Customer Service, and executive leadership. The Director will establish technology priorities, improve system reliability, modernize operational processes, and ensure retail solutions support continued business expansion.

Position Overview
Oversight for platforms that power store activity, distribution operations, merchandise movement, payments, and connected commerce.
This individual will work closely with Store Operations, Merchandising, Supply Chain, Distribution, eCommerce, Marketing, Finance, Loss Prevention, Customer Service, and executive leadership. The Director will establish technology priorities, improve system reliability, modernize operational processes, and ensure retail solutions support continued business expansion.

Store Technology and Retail Operations
  • Direct the technology portfolio supporting checkout lanes, point-of-sale applications, payment terminals, scanners, receipt printers, cash drawers, mobile devices, store workstations, inventory tools, and back-office applications.
  • Support front-of-house and back-of-house workflows such as opening and closing procedures, cash management, item lookup, pricing, promotions, returns, exchanges, receiving, stockroom activity, replenishment, and inventory adjustments.
  • Develop a multiyear store technology plan focused on associate productivity, transaction speed, operational consistency, and the guest experience.
  • Lead technology planning and execution for new store openings, remodels, relocations, acquisitions, hardware replacements, and store system upgrades.
  • Establish repeatable deployment standards, readiness checklists, testing requirements, training plans, and post-launch support processes.
  • Partner with Retail Operations and Loss Prevention to reduce transaction exceptions, improve register controls, strengthen cash-handling processes, and support shrink-reduction initiatives.
  • Evaluate store technology trends and recommend solutions that improve service, mobility, checkout flexibility, and workforce efficiency.
Distribution, Warehouse, and Fulfillment Technology
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for warehouse management systems and supporting distribution center applications.
  • Oversee technology used for inbound receiving, put-away, slotting, replenishment, wave planning, order allocation, picking, packing, parcel manifesting, shipping, returns, cycle counting, and inventory control.
  • Partner with distribution center leadership to improve dock-to-stock time, pick accuracy, labor utilization, shipment throughput, and order completion rates.
  • Support store replenishment, direct-to-consumer fulfillment, ship-from-store, buy online and pick up in store, returns processing, and other connected fulfillment models.
  • Manage integrations between warehouse platforms, Microsoft Dynamics 365, eCommerce applications, order management systems, parcel carriers, freight partners, inventory services, and reporting tools.
  • Improve visibility into available-to-promise inventory, order status, shipment exceptions, aging orders, backorders, transfer activity, and fulfillment performance.
  • Lead initiatives that strengthen inventory accuracy across stores, warehouses, in-transit locations, virtual inventory pools, and customer orders.
Omnichannel Commerce and Guest Experience
  • Partner with eCommerce, Marketing, Merchandising, Store Operations, and Customer Service to create consistent customer journeys across digital and physical channels.
  • Oversee integrations supporting product availability, pricing, promotions, customer profiles, loyalty activity, digital orders, store fulfillment, returns, and service interactions.
  • Improve the connection between online shopping, store pickup, home delivery, customer care, and in-store service.
  • Support customer acquisition and retention programs through loyalty platforms, targeted offers, personalized communications, and customer engagement solutions.
  • Evaluate technologies that improve convenience, service speed, order visibility, customer recognition, and brand consistency.
  • Apply hospitality-oriented service principles to customer-facing technology, ensuring solutions are intuitive for both guests and frontline associates.
Payment Systems and Transaction Technology
  • Establish the strategy for payment terminals, gateways, processors, digital wallets, gift cards, stored-value programs, alternative payment methods, and Buy Now Pay Later services.
  • Support card-present, card-not-present, mobile, eCommerce, and customer-service payment transactions.
  • Manage payment authorization, settlement, reconciliation, chargeback, refund, tokenization, and exception-handling processes.
  • Partner with Finance, Loss Prevention, Internal Audit, and external payment providers to reduce fraud exposure and protect customer transactions.
  • Identify opportunities to lower processing costs, improve authorization rates, reduce checkout friction, and simplify payment reconciliation.
  • Maintain compliance with payment-card requirements and coordinate remediation activities with appropriate business and technology teams.
Enterprise Applications and Business Platforms
  • Oversee business applications supporting Store Operations, Merchandising, Supply Chain, Distribution, Finance, Customer Service, eCommerce, Marketing, and corporate functions.
  • Establish ownership, support expectations, enhancement priorities, release schedules, and lifecycle plans for critical applications.
  • Lead application modernization, system replacement, integration, and process redesign initiatives.
  • Partner with business leaders to identify operational gaps, define future-state workflows, and prioritize technology investments.
  • Ensure business requirements are translated into scalable solutions with clearly defined outcomes, controls, and support models.
  • Create governance processes for application changes, production releases, testing, documentation, and support transition.
  • Maintain clear roadmaps for core platforms and ensure planned investments align with operational demand and growth objectives.
Systems Integration and Data Flow
  • Direct integrations connecting retail systems, warehouse platforms, eCommerce applications, payment services, customer solutions, financial applications, carriers, and third-party providers.
  • Oversee API, middleware, EDI, event-based, web service, scheduled batch, and file-transfer integrations.
  • Establish monitoring, reconciliation, alerting, and exception-management standards for high-volume data exchanges.
  • Ensure product, pricing, inventory, sales, customer, order, payment, and shipment information moves accurately between systems.
  • Lead investigation and resolution of issues involving delayed transactions, inventory mismatches, failed interfaces, duplicate records, and incomplete data.
  • Evaluate integration designs for reliability, supportability, security, scalability, and business continuity.
Vendor and Service Partner Management
  • Manage relationships with software providers, payment processors, consulting firms, implementation partners, carriers, and managed service organizations.
  • Define service expectations, escalation procedures, performance measures, and accountability requirements.
  • Review vendor performance against response times, system availability, issue resolution, delivery quality, and contractual commitments.
  • Lead vendor selection, proposal evaluation, contract support, statement-of-work review, and implementation planning.
  • Ensure external partners understand retail operating schedules, peak trading periods, holiday restrictions, blackout windows, and store support expectations.
  • Coordinate with vendors to address recurring incidents, product limitations, upgrade requirements, and service-quality concerns.

KEY LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead and develop application, retail technology, delivery, and support professionals.
  • Establish clear responsibilities, performance expectations, development plans, and succession strategies.
  • Build strong relationships across Store Operations, Supply Chain, Distribution, Merchandising, eCommerce, Finance, Marketing, Loss Prevention, Customer Service, and executive leadership.
  • Manage multiple priorities while balancing daily operational needs with long-term transformation programs.
  • Communicate risks, decisions, dependencies, timelines, investment requirements, and business outcomes to executive and operational audiences.
  • Develop budgets, resource plans, vendor strategies, and delivery forecasts.
  • Promote a practical, service-oriented culture focused on accountability, operational stability, and business partnership.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive technology experience, including at least five years managing teams, functions, or enterprise initiatives.
  • Background directing application strategy, technology delivery, and production support within retail, warehouse, distribution, logistics, or omnichannel operations.
  • Experience overseeing integrations connecting enterprise platforms with eCommerce systems, payment providers, logistics partners, external vendors, and customer-facing technologies.
  • Track record of delivering enterprise transformation programs, process improvement initiatives, and large-scale system implementations.
  • Ability to create and execute multiyear technology plans that support operational priorities, business expansion, and organizational goals.
  • Working knowledge of store operations, merchandise and inventory movement, supply chain workflows, fulfillment processes, customer-facing platforms, and connected commerce models.
  • Experience managing software vendors, consulting firms, managed service providers, implementation teams, and other strategic technology partners.
  • Understanding of technology governance, cybersecurity controls, regulatory compliance, business continuity, disaster recovery, and operational risk management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, balance multiple business demands, and deliver complex initiatives within established schedules and budgets.

  • Knowledge of point-of-sale architecture, store applications, payment terminals, scanners, printers, cash drawers, mobile equipment, workstations, and back-office systems.
  • Experience supporting payment gateways, processors, tokenization, digital wallets, gift cards, fraud services, chargebacks, settlement, reconciliation, and PCI compliance.
  • Understanding of warehouse management systems, order management platforms, carrier integrations, shipping applications, and inventory services.
  • Experience with APIs, EDI, middleware, batch interfaces, event-driven messaging, web services, file-based exchanges, and third-party connectors.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, cloud-based business applications, identity services, monitoring, hosted environments, and integration services.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, relational databases, data mapping, data validation, reporting tools, and cross-system troubleshooting.
  • Experience overseeing requirements, solution design, configuration, development, testing, deployment, release management, and transition to operational support.
  • Familiarity with incident, problem, change, request, knowledge, and service-level management practices.
  • Experience with Jira, Azure DevOps, ServiceNow, Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or comparable delivery platforms.
  • Ability to diagnose issues involving applications, integrations, data movement, external vendors, devices, and business workflows.
  • Knowledge of role-based security, access governance, audit trails, privileged access, separation of duties, and application controls.
  • Familiarity with retail analytics, inventory reporting, sales reporting, customer data, operational dashboards, and master-data management.
  • Ability to review solution designs, architecture recommendations, implementation proposals, support models, vendor estimates, and technology roadmaps.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Significant experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations.
  • Knowledge of Dynamics 365 Commerce and Supply Chain Management.
  • Familiarity with Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement applications, including Sales Professional and Contact Center.
  • Experience with point-of-sale, warehouse management, order management, loyalty, gift card, payment, or eCommerce platforms.
  • Background supporting multi-location retail, grocery, hospitality, restaurant, warehouse, or distribution organizations.
  • Knowledge of Agile, Waterfall, ITIL, service management, project governance, and organizational change practices.
  • Experience leading enterprise application programs through established project and portfolio management tools.
